We often examine the implications of surveillance in terms of preventing robberies or catching criminals after they’ve committed a violent crime, but a recent article in the Montreal Gazette looks at it from a unique perspective: as a tool to prevent worker’s compensation fraud.
Employers often feel frustrated by what they perceive as potentially abusive and fraudulent claims of these benefits, and are often left with little to no recourse. The article examines the possibility of using surveillance systems to catch employees doing things they’ve been deemed medically unable to perform.
This brings up some ethical and legal issues, of course, but the article examines them as well, and looks at the options employers have.
