Surveillance Could Help Prevent Environmental Crimes

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

An article recently posted by Columbus Local News highlights a situation where increased surveillance may help to prevent crime.

Local environmental groups are urging citizens to take video and photo when possible in an attempt to catch these perpetrators.

Surveillance systems could go a long way to catching these violations and preventing them in the future.

Many of the areas have large Muslim communities, and the community feels they weren’t properly consulted.
Promises have been made to remove some of the cameras. This serves to highlight that, while increased surveillance has its benefits, it also has its detractors, and the needs of the community must be weighed when placing public cameras.

The article examines the possibility of using surveillance systems to catch employees doing things they’ve been deemed medically unable to perform.

This brings up some ethical and legal issues, of course, but the article examines them as well, and looks at the options employers have.
