Columbus Purse Theft Caught On Video, Named Crime Of the Week

On July 13th, two men and a woman stole a purse from a local furniture store by distracting the salespeople and rummaging behind the counter.

The whole act was caught on video and has been posted on the Crime Stoppers web site and a reward is being offered.

Surveillance May Lead to Charges In Prison Riot

Cleveland.com is reporting on a police riot in Lancaster, Ohio.

Inmates set fire to toilet paper and mattresses in the riot. Luckily no one was hurt. Sheriff Dave Phalen says that charges may be pressed once the security footage is reviewed.

Surveillance Helps Identify Woman Wanted in Credit Theft Case

Surveillance photos shown on the local news have led to a warrant for the arrest of Yolanda Benbow. The Groveport, OH woman is wanted for stealing a credit card from the local First Baptist Church.

Columbus Ohio Sets plans in Motion to Counter Bridge Vandalism With Cameras

Columbus officials are going to install cameras on a local trail to prevent vandalism.

Three teens were recently arrested for spray-painting vulgar language on the bridge. In response to the complaints, local police are not patrolling the area nightly.

Two men Get Photographed While Stealing Surveillance Equipment

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting on a story about two men who broke glass doors, smashed floodlights, and stole mounted surveillance cameras in Northeast Columbus throughout the month of June.

Now though, they’ve hit an ironic roadbump: While stealing the surveillance equipment their pictures were taken. Now, their photos are up on www.stopcrime.org. A reward of 2000 dollars is offered, and police are looking for more information.

Columbus Police Seeking Robbery Suspect

Police are looking for help in identifying a man who robbed a Columbus-area Church’s Chicken recently.

The armed man allegedly took cash from the store at gunpoint.

No surveillance footage was available. While police found the getaway vehicle, it was unoccupied and also found to be stolen. More details are available in the full story.

Pittsburgh Officials Tout Effectiveness of Security Cameras

Officials in the Marshall-Shadeland section of Pittsburgh are touting the benefits of their new surveillance systems, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Pittsburgh is one of many US cities experimenting with the use of security cameras as a crime deterrent.

They’re also expected to expand to include up to 200 cameras over the next 18 months.

Surveillance Footage May Offer Clues in Robbery

Robbers in Missouri pulled off a “well-orchestrated” heist Monday, leaving police scanning surveillance footage and looking for clues.

Four well-armed men entered a local ATM-servicing business by subduing an employee reporting for duty. They bound and gagged him, and then locked him in a vault while they took large amounts of cash and escaped in an armored vehicle.

Police are currently looking for leads and examining surveillance footage from the area.

Surveillance Cameras Catch Thwarted Robbery Attempt

Fox 8 has released surveillance footage that shows a thwarted robbery attempt at a local store.

An armed man entered a convenience store and attempted to rob it. He was thwarted by a customer in the store. The customer, a 61-year-old former marine, grabbed and stabbed the would-be robber.
